The beauty of entrepreneurship is that while every founder's dream and vision is unique, there is much to learn from the past experiences of those that have suffered and succeeded through startup tribulations. In this class, I will discuss the ups and downs of starting Savored (VillageVines at the time) in NYC in September of 2009, raising $7.5 million of venture capital, scaling to a team of 45+, hiring key personnel, pivoting and rebranding the business, scaling down expenses, focusing on our core competency and finally selling the company to Groupon in September of 2012.

This class focuses on the fundamental elements required for startup success: (1) having a vision, (2) defining a strategy, (3) growing a team and support network, (4) taking action and moving quickly, (5) being unique, (6) staying focused, (7) creating and harnessing momentum, and (8) stepping back and having fun. In examining each element, I will discuss the key lessons learned from my experience with Savored. I hope the class to be very interactive and will reserve significant time for Q&A.
