NC State's MBA Program has a strong commitment to providing exceptional management education to working professionals. We offer an AACSB International-accredited part time MBA program that features an award-winning faculty, innovative curriculum, and affordable tuition.

Professional MBA students choose between the Main Campus and RTP Campus and may choose between two tracks:

  • Accelerated: Complete in as little as 21 months (including some weekend and/or international courses)
  • Flexible: Complete at your own pace within 6 years

A REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE

Our competitive admissions process and restricted class size ensure that students have the opportunity to interact with faculty and exchange ideas with other outstanding business students. Working in teams with other area professionals, students explore a variety of business issues and acquire the skills essential to being a successful leader in a rapidly changing global business climate.

In addition to completing core courses in the basics of management, part-time MBA students select electives and specialized concentrations including biotechnology-pharmaceuticals management, technology entrepreneurship & commercialization, information technology management, marketing management, production innovation management, supply chain management, and financial management.

A PART-TIME MBA PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR PROFESSIONALS

The part time MBA program is designed so that students can complete all coursework within 21 months through the accelerated track. Students may also choose the flexible track and complete courses part time within 6 years. Courses are offered on weekdays from either 6:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., depending on the credit hours, and meet once per week. Classes are held in Nelson Hall on the NC State campus in Raleigh and on our campus in Research Triangle Park. Professional MBA students generally travel to campus two nights a week for class and may choose to take one-credit hour weekend courses. Professors are accessible before & after class, during breaks, and by email & phone.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

The knowledge and skills you will acquire as a Professional MBA student can have an immediate impact on your own work and open new doors for career advancement. Many part time students receive promotions from their employers and accept new challenges with their organizations.

For students looking to make a career or company change, assistance is available. Unlike most MBA programs, we do not restrict Professional students from using our career services resources. Our Professional students have complete access to our Career Resources Center for their job search and employment counseling needs.

Admission to the MBA program is highly competitive. You will need to demonstrate the following personal accomplishments and attributes:

(You may assess the quantitative strength of your application by comparing your undergraduate GPA and GMAT/GRE scores with that of our current class.)

  • Strong intellectual performance and academic promise, evidenced by previous undergraduate and graduate work as well as GMAT/GRE scores
  • An employment history demonstrating management potential through full-time work, volunteer, or military experiences
  • Leadership skills, maturity, creativity, initiative and teamwork orientation
  • A desire and willingness to learn about technology and the management challenges it creates

Please be aware that admissions decisions are based on a combination of the factors outlined above. Although your GPA and GMAT/GRE are important factors in your application, high scores in these areas do not guarantee admission.

The Admission Committee will review your application. Interviews are required for applicants for both the Full-time and Professional MBA programs, and we will notify you if you have been selected to interview.

Interview Policy & Process

Interviews are conducted by invitation only for applicants to the program. Applicants to the MBA program are selected to interview based on the quality of the completed application. We will not offer admission to a candidate until he/she has completed a personal interview with a member of our Admissions Committee.

If you are chosen to interview, we will send you an email message that describes the process for scheduling an interview and the date by which the interview must be completed. You will be notified via telephone if you do not have access to email.

Interviews are conducted on campus in the NC State MBA Program office. If this is not possible, we will arrange a telephone interview.

Admissions Notification of Acceptance

Approximately 30 days after the application deadline and interview, we will inform you of the committee’s recommendation of admission or denial. You will receive a letter from the Dean of the Graduate School with the official decision. For security reasons, we do not give admission decisions on the telephone.

All admissions decisions are final. If you are denied admission, you may reapply the following year. The MBA office holds all applications materials for one year, so you will not need to resubmit transcripts or GMAT scores unless your scores or transcripts have changed.

You must enroll under the status for which you applied. To change from Full-time status to Professional status, or vice versa, you must contact the MBA office and request a change. The Committee will determine eligibility.

Applicants who are granted admission may defer their enrollment for up to one year. If an admitted applicant decides to defer admission after paying the required $300 non refundable enrollment, he or she will forfeit the deposit and be required to submit a new one once enrollment is confirmed for a later semester.
